The Hydropolis Underwater Hotel and Resort in Dubai, the world’s first underwater luxury resort designed by Joachim Hauser will be opened before the end of 2009. The Hydropolis underwater hotel in Dubai cost £300 million. The Hydropolis Underwater Hotel’s construction began in 2005, was supposed to be completed by the end of 2006. But due to some technical difficulties like design issues, and the rough sea the project got delayed.
Hydropolis Underwater Hotel situated 66 feet below the surface of the Persian Gulf, just off Jumeira Beach in Dubai. Hydropolis consists of the land station which will serve as welcome area, a connecting tunnel, and the 220-suite hotel. It is one of the largest contemporary construction projects in the world, covering an area of 260 hectares, about the size of London’s Hyde Park.

In order to enter this surreal space, visitors will begin at the land station. This 120m woven, semicircular cylinder will arch over a multi-storey building.

Hydropolis is taking shape 20m below the surface of the Persian Gulf, just off the Jumeirah Beach. The land belongs to His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and was his last free beach property on this stretch of coast.

Joachim Hauser plans to incorporate many different elements associated with the sea. He views his creation as a place where those who do not dive, or do not even swim, can experience the tranquillity and inspiration of the underwater world.

The upper storeys of the land station house a variety of facilities, including a cosmetic surgery clinic, a marine biological research laboratory and conference facilities.
