Arcadian Delight
The ballet is set to delectable music by Delibes: the score composed for the ballet choreographed in 1876 by Eugène Lacoste for the inaugural season of the the Paris Opera’s lavish Palais Garnier house plus parts of the same composer’s La Source. Delibes, dance fans will recall, was the first composer to make ballet music worth listening to even when there’s no dancing to look at; he paved the way for Tchaikovsky.

This visual, contemporary ballet features performances by the French dance company Ballet Preljocaj. The work is based on Vivaldi’s famous concerto titled “The Four Seasons.”
Much ingrained in popular culture from TV commercials to the movie “White Chicks,” Antonio Vivaldi’s concerto “The Four Seasons” has become a trying cliche in the minds of many. And it may just take France’s Ballet Preljocaj to renew the well-known (and well-worn) 18th-century score.

Houston Ballet perform a mixed repertory program showcasing the breadth of the company’s repertoire: from great classical showpieces like George Balanchine’s Tchaikovsky Pas de deux to Solo, a contemporary tour-de-force for three male dancers by legendary Dutch choreographer Hans van Manen.
